10 Tips for Preparing Your Nursery

As new moms, we recently found ourselves decorating a nursery or two in preparation for our little ones’ arrivals! We have also had the privilege of listing recent homes with adorable nurseries, and we get inspiration during showings on occasion as well. Below, you’ll find our 10 best tips for preparing your nursery:

  1. Consider an accent wall

Board and batten, wallpaper, a fun color of paint – you decide!

  2. Take a lap around Ikea

They have fantastic shelving units, cube inserts, drawer organizers & so much more, all at a great price!

  3. Then take a virtual lap around Wayfair

This was our favorite place for furniture in the nursery. Think crib & dresser.

  4. Order your rocking chair or glider early

Kaitlyn’s arrived while she was in the hospital, and Kristen’s still hasn’t arrived over two weeks after having Dorothy Mae, despite our attempts to order 2+ months before our due dates. Learn from our mistake on this one!

  5. Install a fun light fixture

This one may take a little help from your favorite electrician, but this is such a fun way to complete the look!

  6. Add a name sign or a neon sign

There are so many great options on Etsy!

  7. Use a changing table topper/tray

Using this instead of a formal changing table allows you to pick any dresser instead of just changing tables. Hello more options!

  8. Bins & baskets

With labels as a bonus! These are perfect in the closest or the drawers to keep things organized yet easy to put away.

  9. Place a dim lamp near the changing table

    For those 2am feeding/changing sessions!

  10. Choose pieces they can grow with!

Think convertible cribs & themes that double for a newborn and a toddler.
